- Temporary partial disability If an employee can still perform light duty after an injury at work, the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission may award temporary partial disability until the worker can return to the regular position held before the injury. - Temporary total disability
If the employee cannot work at all, the employer must offer temporary total disability benefits. These benefits consist of two-thirds of the employee’s usual weekly wage. As soon as a worker has missed three full days of work because of an injury, the employer is required to begin TTD payments. These cases are often more complicated than partial disability cases. - Permanent partial disability
When an injury on the job has permanent results, the IWCC will award the worker permanent partial disability to offset the loss of wages caused by the trauma. PPD payments are made in the following situations:
- Partial loss of use of the whole body

- Total or partial loss of the use of any body part, including hearing or sightIf the IWCC awards permanent partial disability, the injured employee will receive lifelong financial reimbursement for the difference in lost wages, as well as all necessary medical care arising from the injury.
- Permanent total disabilityWhen a worker is irreversibly impaired because of a workplace accident, the state of Illinois will offer permanent total disability coverage. This coverage applies to employees who lose at least two crucial body parts (such as both eyes or both legs) or become permanently and totally disabled. These workers receive two-thirds of their former wages for life, along with all medical costs.
