Here’s some interesting facts about fatal crashes in Illinois

On Behalf of | Sep 26, 2019 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

Illinois is home to many people who enjoy living there and working through their daily lives. Most people don’t go through their days thinking that today could be the day of a serious or fatal car crash.

Every year, there is data released about the state’s total number of fatal crashes. This data can be indicative of changes in the state’s traffic safety. For example, Illinois has seen 92 fewer crashes so far in 2019 than in 2018. However, there are still three months to go.

What’s also interesting about the data is that it can show where crashes take place. Fatalities were most likely on city streets and state-US routes, with 225 taking place on highways and 245 on city streets.

What types of crashes cause fatalities in Illinois?

The types of crashes leading to fatalities vary. Some common kinds of collisions include bicyclist crashes, work-zone collisions, pedestrian crashes and motorcyclist collisions.

Crashes don’t have to happen if people pay attention to the road, slow down and avoid distractions. Many crashes are a result of:

  • Texting and driving
  • Talking on the phone while driving
  • Eating behind the wheel
  • Falling asleep behind the wheel

Overall, it’s up to you to make your travels safer. If you do see another driver who is acting in an unsafe manner, call 911 or the local police, so they can stop them and make sure they’re aware of their actions. If you end up suffering from a collision or lose a loved one in a crash, then you can pursue your legal options.
