4-vehicle crash leaves 2 with significant injuries

On Behalf of | Dec 5, 2019 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

When you’re traveling on the road, one thing you might notice is an uptick in the number of large semitrucks. With a better economy, more goods move around the country. As the holidays arrive, even more of these vehicles will cram their way onto roadways.

Semitrucks are dangerous, though. The drivers don’t have great visibility, so they can’t see you if you’re too close to their vehicle. They need more time to stop and accelerate, and they need a lot more room to pass.

In poor weather, crashes can happen because of jackknifing. Jackknifing is when the trailer of the semi swings out. It creates a kind of “L” shape that is difficult to correct. It can take up all lanes of travel.

That’s what happened on Dec. 2. A semi that lost control caused a four-vehicle crash as it jackknifed on an icy ramp. Another semi collided with the vehicle. This made the first tractor trailer overturn.

Next, a sports utility vehicle became involved. Another car went off the road and struck a guardrail.

The driver of the first semi had to be transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver had a passenger with them that also had to be taken to the hospital.

If you are in a car, truck or even another semi and are hit, it’s important to know your rights. You can pursue a claim against a driver who causes a collision, so you can try to recover your losses and get compensation for any injuries that you’ve suffered as a result of the collision.
