What are acute injuries?

On Behalf of | Aug 30, 2018 | Accidents & Injuries

Personal injuries come in two main forms: acute and overuse. If you have been hurt by another person, you’ve suffered an acute injury.

An acute injury refers to one that is caused by a sudden event, whereas the overuse injury happens over time due to wearing down the muscles, ligaments and other parts of the body.

What do you do if you suffer an acute injury?

In most cases, people who suffer acute injuries seek medical attention right away because of the obvious pain and injury caused. For example, if you dislocate your shoulder, you’ll likely call for help or go to the hospital quickly. Similarly, if you land wrong on your wrist and can’t pick up a cup, you know that you probably have a broken bone and need to seek medical attention. The key to successful treatment is to get medical attention as soon as you realize the state of the injury.

How can you get compensated for your injuries?

That depends in part on how you got hurt. If you were hurt in a friend’s home, then as the property owner, they should be held liable. Similarly, if you’re hurt in a car crash, then you should be able to file a claim against the other driver who caused the accident. What your claim comes down to is liability. If there is another person who caused your injuries, then you should have the right to seek compensation.
