Impacts and injuries: Get the right payout

On Behalf of | Mar 1, 2019 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

Traffic accidents can take a toll on your body. When you’re involved in an impact, the seat belt restrains you and spreads out the force across some of the strongest parts of your body and protects your internal organs.

Depending on the severity of the impact, you could find that you’re badly hurt even with the assistance of a seat belt. The reality is that your body can only take so much impact, even with it spread out.

What happens when your body can’t withstand an impact?

A few different things can happen. The first is that you may suffer from a broken bone. For example, the part of the belt that crosses your chest could restrain you but cause enough force to break a rib. Another example occurs if you’re holding on to the steering wheel. The impact may be too strong for your hands or wrist, leading to torn tendons or broken bones.

Even with the safety precautions you’ve taken working like expected, the reality is that you could be badly hurt in a collision. You can’t expect anything in your vehicle to provide 100 percent protection. That’s why insurance is necessary.

Once you’re hurt, you have a right to seek compensation from the at-fault party. They are supposed to have car insurance so that you can file a claim and be compensated. The compensation may cover medical care, lost wages and other financial losses. Your attorney can help you know if a settlement offer from the insurance agency is enough to cover everything you need and if it seems fair.
